Finito... finally
Well actually I finished my shorts about two days ago. But I've been wearing them since so havn't had time to photgraph the finish product. All I can say it that I love them. Possibly a tad on the short side now but I really don't feel like more unpicking so I will leave them as they are. They are super comfortable, and quite cute as well, I think at least.
I will definately be making this pattern again I think. Perhaps next time with only one set of side buttons, since to take them off and on I only unbutton one side. I'm thinking perhaps a pair of boardies based off this pattern, only with no pockets except for maybe a side one. And maybe also a pair of nice pants. I really want cargo pants so maybe I could make a pair based off this pattern.
Don't you love it when a project works out :) Espechially when you've put a ton of work into said project.

I Hate Unpicking
So I finally got the buttons done :) buuut then decided the shorts are too long, so now its time for an unpicking marathon. Joy.

Ruby in Stripes
Today I started on sewing myself a new pair of shorts. I have this thing were I usually just sew myself pretty dresses that I probably won't wear on a day-to-day basis. I'm more of a shorts and t-shirts kind of girl, although I do love my dresses. Shorts are just so much easier :P
Anyway, I'm using the Ruby pattern off Burdastyle. I've never used it before but looking at all the lovely projects based on it I'm sure it will turn out well. And so far so good. I made up a muslin out of an old bedsheet which is pretty good for me. I'm usually much too impatient for muslins :P Anyway I figured a muslin would probably be a good idea for a pair of shorts, due to my bum being a bit of a pain to fit. I've got quite a curvy back, which makes my bum stick out. Half the reason I started to sew was because bought clothes would never fit properly, much like most other people who start to sew.
Back to the shorts... I'm using a pin stripe suiting material, probably some sort of polyester, which I have used before when I made my Bella shorts.
The Bella shorts are great and I love them, but I would like a lower waisted pair, the high waist gets quite hot in the summer.
So far I have made 3 pockets and attached them. I made my first ever welt pocket. It's a bit wonky and won't quite close, but I'm happy with it.
Whoops, looking at the picture I realised I forgot to take out a line of basting, my bad :P. Sorry for the terrible quality, but I'm using my phone camera.
These are the back pockets:
One of them has gone all shiny, probably from over-ironing. Hopefully that will come out in the wash. I remember I did the same thing when working on my Bella shorts, but I can't remember if it stayed or went away after a while. I'll take my not remembering as a good sign, because it must not have been that noticable.
Anyway I better get back to it, wish me luck :)

The Start
Hello and welcome to my little corner of the interwebs. My name is Nadia, and as you may have guessed, I like to sew!! I'm starting this blog to document my sewing, both the triumphs and mishaps and any other stuff along the way :)
I spose I should mention how I got into sewing. I'm not really sure entirely. A lot of sewists have mothers or grandparents that taught them how to sew, and/or used to sew clothes for their teddys or Barbies. I don't think I ever had any interest in sewing when I was a child. Well maybe once I made myself a beanbag teddy, I've definately always had an interest in creating but never specifically in sewing. It started in 2009 when I turned 18 and most of my friends also turned 18. So there were a lot of themed/dress up 18th parties to attend, and I started to find that I really enjoyed making my costumes, which got me thinking about making my own clothes.
I have quite a pear shaped body, which can make it really hard to find clothes that fit and flatter. I find shopping for clothes really tedious and since I started to sew I can't remeber the last time I bought clothes for myself. Well I did buy boardies a couple of weeks ago but I was desperate so that doesn't count. :p
If I go out somewhere dressy, the majority of the time I will wear something I've made myself, simply because it fits and usually looks a lot better then anything I've bought in a shop. Hopefully over time I'll been able to displace most of my wardrobe with handmade items.
