Blue Backless Dress

Hi!
My latest dress, I finished about a week ago. It is made out of some stretchy material I bought before christmas for $2/m. Not quite sure what it is. Possibly some sort of lycra blend, because it feels a bit like thin swim suit material.
Anyway, originally I had intended to make a maxi dress out of the material, because it had quite a long width and a cool border pattern. You can sort of see the border pattern happening on this dress but on a maxi it would stand out alot more. I still might make a maxi out of the left over material, I have quite a bit left over. I didn't make the maxi because this project was a bit of an instant gratification project. I haven't finished something in aggges, so I wanted something quick and easy were I wouldn't have to worry about fiddly details such as buttons or zippers. I felt that a maxi would a bit more challenging to make work on my figure (which I didn't feel like dealing with) and I wanted something that I knew would look nice. The T-shirt style plus flared skirt is definitely a style of dress I love and I know works most of the time.
Onto the dress. It's backless :P (in case that wasn't obvious) with these cute bow things going over the back. I've seen the bows on a lot of backless tops and dresses and think it's a really cute detail. The dress has two pleats at the waist and I finished the hem, sleeves and sash with a lettuce leaf rolled hem stitch, done on my beautiful overlocker!

Sorry, not sure how easy that is to see in the picture above.
I tried to incorporate the border print of the fabric into the dress, but as it was quite a large print, it isn't that obvious on a shorter dress. As I'm typing this I'm getting the urge to try sew that maxi dress. Might talk about that later.
Because the dress is backless I added a built-in bra and made the bodice completely lined. For me a bra is a must, I hate going braless. The waist is a bit loose, so I made up a little sash to go with the dress to add some definition.

Overall, I'm very happy with it. It's comfy and the fabric is nice a cool, perfect for summer. Which conveniently is almost over. However with some tights or leggings, I will definitely be wearing this in the cooler months as well :)

Bye for now :)

One Stripey Ruby

Hi!!
Yep, exciting stuff. Finally got around to posting modelled pictures of my Ruby shorts. These have definately gotten more then their fair share of wears. Mostly due to the extended summer we've been having here in Perth. Seriously, half way through April and I'm still in shorts and t-shirt all day. Great in a way, but I would really love winter to get it's butt into gear.
Anyway, back to the shorts. Very comfy, the Ruby pattern from Burdastyle is great! These are probably a tad on the short side, but that doesn't really bother me at the moment. The fit everywhere else is great. :)
Here are some details: Side buttons (all mis-matched)

Chevron striped seams and pretty pocket under-flaps (not really sure is there is a more technical term out there :P)

Definately going to make a few more of these!!

Have a great day!! :)
