Day 2: First Thing in the Day

The components of breakfast, which is probably the most important meal of the day for me. If I'm missing any of these things it just turns my day sour for some reason. I'm a little OCD when it comes to breakfast. I get that from my dad :P
Anyway, I really love playing with depth of field and things close up. I think a lot of the photos you will see on here will involve varying depth of field. It's just such a cool effect and a good way (in my opinion) to highlight certain aspects of a picture without losing context.
Have a good day.

Also I am a bit behind in my 30 photos a day because I am lazy and had other things to do, which is unfortunate. I will try pick up my game!

30 Day Photo Challenge - Day 1 - Self Portrait

So, as with most of the creative stuff that I do, this photo happened completely by accident. I was setting up my camera to get the focus and frame correctly for the self portrait, pressed the shutter button and then my dog distracted me. Which is cool because I suppose that's why I like it, it looks a lot more natural then the other self portraits I tried to take. The only problem I have is with the exposure. I think maybe editing could make it a little less glaring, but my photo editing skills are non-existant at the moment. Another area to improve in I suppose :)

Me-Made-May 2012

So, I've decided to sign up for Me-Made-May this year and I will endevour to stick to it. Hopefully it will improve my blogging and provide a way for me to document what I have made but haven't taken photos of yet. Since I don't have that much handmade stuff I will only be wearing one item of handmade clothing. So here it is.

'I, Nadia of Buttons and Bolts, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '12. I endeavour to wear one item of handmade clothing each day for the duration of May 2012'

Lets hope I stick to it. Also I think I'm going to change the name of this blog. I don't think the current one is very me.

Here's a link to Zoe's (from So Zo) original post: http://sozowhatdoyouknow.blogspot.com.au/2012/04/me-made-may-12-join-me.html

Peplum Jacket with Lace Trim

Well it's been a long time since I posted something. Even though I have been sewing, it's been a while since I've taken photos of something I've made. I had a couple of minutes before I had to go to uni the other day which proved to be a perfect opportunity to take photos of this jacket I made almost a year ago.
The pattern I used was McCalls 5936

The lace trim was something I had seen on an Anthropologie blazer and I thought it was a really cute detail. And I just love the peplum silhouette. Of the construction details I can't remember much of because it was quite a while ago that I made it. I think I may have lengthened the bodice/dropped the waist seam. Not quite sure though.
Peeking Lace Blazer from Anthropologie

It's pretty cute and comfortable and dresses up an outfit quite nicely.

back view, you can see how the lace slightly puckered the peplum

I really wish I had added inside pockets or any sort of pocket really. The lack of pocket can be very frustrating sometimes!
Also sorry for the slightly grumpy expressions, I swear I wasn't grumpy or upset at all, I just look like that sometimes :(
Here are some detail shots :)
buttons!! aren't they cute!

lace details and wonky topstitching :P

More lace details and slightly less wonky topstitching
Anyway I should head to bed, up early tomorrow morning. Good night!!
